Here’s an old post…repeated.

Still good thoughts today, the same as they were 3 years ago.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Be thankful for what you have, remember there are those who have less, and some quite a bit less.  Remember those in shelters, who have no home.  Remember soup kitchens, serving meals to folks who have no other meal.  Remember folks who can not get into shelters, and live on the streets.

Remember that if you are struggling with something yourself, there is hope.  Look inside yourself deep and find out where that hope lies.  The holidays are hard for people, but sometimes finding a way to do some good deed for another makes things better.  If you are in a position to help someone else, do that, and you will be richly rewarded inside your heart and your head for the deed.

One of my clients went to a church yesterday to help pack produce into bags, to be given at a food distribution center.  He, like many of the folks I work with,  is a man who has much to give in terms of his heart, and that is as important as the giving of things.  Each person has something to give, and each person needs something given, no matter what your financial status is.  Good deeds, good thoughts, sometimes even a smile to a stranger might change a person’s day.  Give and receive from your heart, be thankful that you can give whatever, and receive what is given to you, and have a good holiday!

  1. No matter how hard our lives seem to be, there are always those (unfortunately) whose lives are harder….much harder. We need to be cognizant of that and never stop reaching out to those less fortunate. You’re right, even a simple thing like a smile or a pleasant nod can make a difference.

    • I’ve worked for so long in mental health, it’s second nature to me to remember that not everybody has easy lives, and I try to remind others sometimes. Yes, even a smile can change somebody’s day. Reaching out, yes, Gregg. Many people just don’t do that. Have a great holiday!

  2. Just that old “honey / vinegar” thang. Some things never change even tho there aren’t any white picket fences anymore and June Cleaver is pushing up the daisies. Decency never goes outta style.
