The full moon in January was called the Wolf Moon in medieval times. It was the time of the year when the hungry wolves would come closest to the house. The night that the owl flies low, risking predators in getting too close to the ground for any little available morsel.
Great post! I had wanted to photograph the Wolf Moon tonight but it’s too cloudy and foggy. I’ll have to wait and try next month with the Snow Moon.
Thanks! We had fog all day here too Jackie. Next month, yea!
I’ve never heard of Wolf Moon. And what are those bright streaks in the sky? Is that light reflected off of falling snow? And is that picture of snow around your home? If so, WOW! It’s supposed to turn cold here tomorrow ugh. But it sure was nice today. Hope you’re staying warm and well fed 😉
Yea, it’s a picture I took last winter. My porch light was on above my head and I couldn’t believe it when I saw the picture, that I had captured the snow and the way it turned out. It’s going to be 16 here tonight and hatefully cold for the next 2 days. But I’m keeping toasty! You keep yourself safe and warm too!
I’ve never heard of Wolf Moon Nancy. Old Appalachian tradition says that tonight (Old Christmas) at midnight, you can hear the animals speak. I’m listening… PS Are those streaks in your picture caused from the camera’s flash reflecting off of falling snow?
You posted 2 ways here. Up here we don’t want to hear them speak, lol, so we bribe them Christmas eve with good treats. Good luck.if you want to hear them!
