It’s just fun, growing this squash. There are 9 big ones forming as they should. There are some other little buds which probably won’t have time to develop into mature squash before the first frost, but I’ll be happy with just these, considering I had no idea what to expect with this needing a long growing season.

The first one that came on is starting to turn color. They will get to be a dark gold-ish color. Winter squash communicate with us and tell us when to pick them: the stem holding the squash will wither and turn brown and gnarly when the squash is ready to be picked.

That the heck are those things? They look silly hovering in the air like that. Don’t tell Audrey I said that.
They aren’t hovering; they’re attached to the good strong stems able to hold up 3-8 lb squash. I’m telling Albert that you’re picking on Audrey. 😉
