That Green Pan…………

that green pan

You know, they will lie to you on tv commercials.  Really, lots of companies show products that don’t work nearly the way the commercials say they will.  Some people buy them and end up wasting money on a worthless product.

But, you know that green pan you see advertised?  https://www.orgreenic.com/?gclid=CPSftYnn77ICFROe4AodqVsAIg  I saw it on tv and thought it made sense, since it is ceramic, and might work.  The commercial made it look great, but again, many do.

I like the non-stick quality of Teflon, and like the idea of not needing a lot of oil to cook…well, anything!  There has been  some controversy over the years about the safety of non-stick surfaces on pans, but Sara, a DuPont representative, left me a message below, stating that Teflon has been tested very well and it safe for our use.

As an old(er) person, and a diabetic, I try to eat as healthy as I can.  I go out of my way to get healthy foods and cook them in sensible ways.  I eat a lot of whole grains, and now buy beef, chicken and eggs from a local farmer to insure not getting all those chemicals that are in  some foods from regular stores.  And I eat local produce in the summer, and grow a little of my own.

So, as I stood there looking at this green pan in the store, considering……is that commercial true or am I going to be very upset that I spent about $20 on a dud?  Well, I bought the pan.

The pan works!  Just as they say it does!  Thank you, OrGreenics!  I have used it several times already: for beef simmered in a sauce, eggs, and potatoes.  It heats up quickly and doesn’t need as high a heat as I’ve used with other pans for the same foods.  And clean up is just as easy as they say. When an over-easy egg slides out of a pan, you know you’ve got yourself a good pan!

I will be using this pan a lot!

OrGreenics you have contributed to my healthy eating!

A message from Sara, a representative of DuPont:

Hi — I applaud the idea of creating a safer home, and because there’s so much misinformation out there about the Teflon® brand, I’m not surprised that you are concerned. I’m a representative of DuPont and hope you’ll let me share some information with you and your readers so that everyone can make truly informed decisions.

In repeated tests, cookware with DuPont™ Teflon® nonstick coatings outperformed ceramics and lasted 7 times longer than ceramic-coated pans. That’s 7 times more waste in a landfill, more energy used, more CO2 emissions and 7 times more packaging, based on a DuPont lifecycle analysis done in 2011.

Regulatory agencies have affirmed that nonstick coatings made with PTFE are safe for their intended use in cookware. Teflon® nonstick coatings for cookware are based on PTFE and safe for their intended use.

I appreciate your consideration of this comment. Cheers, Sara.

  1. I have a set of three ceramic pans that have been well used for over twenty years and are starting to show their age. Have been wondering if that green pan on TV would work to replace them.

  2. There is only one size that I’ve seen, so it wouldn’t suit all your needs just from size. I really like it. It will even brown meat in a way that non-stick type pans won’t. It’s neat!

  4. Sara, I was unaware of the very efficient testing that had been done with Teflon. I have reworded part of this blog as well as adding your comments about the safety of Teflon at the end. Thank you for giving this additional information!

  5. I have been intrigued by that green pan. It’s time for some new cookwares, and this might be the place to start.
