Bee Informed-This is Truly Foul News!

Please think about all the problems that pollinators, and honey bees in particular, are having, and do anything that you can to help. Tennessee Transitions wrote great info here!

Bee-HiveAttention Tennessee beekeepers in Washington, Sullivan, Hawkins, Unicoi, Johnson, and Carter counties:  a case of American Foulbrood is being investigated in Kingsport, TN.  State apiarist Mike Studer is inspecting hives to determine whether or not this is an isolated case, but all beekeepers are encouraged to check/inspect their hives.  New beekeepers are encouraged to contact their mentors, an experienced beekeeper, or one of our local inspectors to ensure the health of their hives. It is generally recommended that beekeepers burn the whole hive to help prevent the spread of this disease.  It would be prudent to harvest any honey available and unless you have been cleared by an inspector as free of foulbrood, it is suggested that you not feed your honey back to your bees.
